Lekhnath, Sep 5 : Indreni Theatre, a dynamic theatrical organisation based in Pokhara, has scheduled a new drama, Aaturkal, for September 7 and 8 in Kathmandu.
Aaturkal, a compelling Nepali drama written by Kedar Nath Paudel and directed by Kapil Sharma, explores sacrifice, loss, and resilience throughout the stages of human life.
"Aaturkal" delves deep into the life of Balaram, a character who has witnessed a series of hardships, including the heart-wrenching loss of his father to a devastating flood and his own struggles in a foreign land.
Through Balaram's journey, the play artfully uncovers themes of sacrifice, personal growth and the profound impact of societal norms and cultural values on individual choices, says writer Paudel.
The venue, Russian House in Kamal Pokhari, Kathmandu, is set for an intimate and immersive spectacle of this powerful drama. The production of Aaturkal has been made possible in collaboration with various partners including Gandaki Pragya Pratisthan (Gandaki Academy), Nepal Arts Academy, Shailee Theatre and the Russian House.
Director Kapil Sharma, along with Assistant Director Laxman Dumre, gave life to the story, ensuring that each scene resonates with authenticity and power. Laxman Dumre, Sitala Adhikari, Arjun Gurung, Priyanka Khadka, Ramhari Adhikari and Pawan B.K. have played various roles in the drama.
Paudel opines that writing the play has stirred deep emotions within him. "Aaturkal' depicts the land of suffering, pain and struggles that sometimes true happiness remains elusive in life.
Director Kapil Sharma explains that the entire life of a person, from birth to death, is incorporated in Aaturkal. Sharma says, "The play reflects the challenges, sacrifices and moments of personal growth that individuals face, influenced by their customs and behaviours."
The play was previously staged at the Gandarva Theatre in Pokhara in February this year.
