KAHS, Tilganga Eye Hospital ink deal for service delivery

By Netra Shahi,Jumla, Aug. 27: Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) and Tilganga Eye Hospital have signed an agreement with the aim of delivering comprehensive eye treatment services across the Karnali region.

Senior Ophthalmologist, Dr. Sanduk Ruit, and the Vice Chancellor of KAHS, Dr. Mangal Rawal, officially signed the agreement on a Friday in the presence of Minister for Health and Population Mohan Bahadur Basnet.

Nripendra Mahat, the KAHS registrar, said an agreement was successfully reached on Friday with the aim of expanding the services.

During the event, Minister Basnet expressed his confidence that the collaboration between KAHS and Tilganga Eye Hospital would extend all the facilities related to eye-related ailments to the remote villages in Karnali Province.

“By expanding specialist services and advanced medical care between the two hospitals, the academy would act as a centre, from which the services will be extended to other remote villages through branches,” he added.

Senior Ophthalmologist Dr. Ruit promised to provide training and health equipment to the eye department under Karnali Institute for state-of-the-art surgical facilities.

He assured that advanced surgical equipment would be provided for the eye department under the KAHS.

Dr. Ruit also committed to providing training for this purpose.

He said along with the partnership with the Karnali Foundation, efforts will be made to extend eye health services to remote regions.

“The expansion of services to every part of Karnali to treat patients with conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes related eye issues, and various eye diseases, is indeed a positive development,” said Dr. Ruit.

Vice Chancellor of the KAHS, Dr. Rawal, mentioned that currently, the academy is providing outpatient department (OPD) eye services.

He further explained that within the next four months, an advanced eye division will be set up to offer more comprehensive and specialised eye care services.

Expressing his gratitude to the government and Tilganga Eye Hospital for the support, he outlined plans to establish the academy as a central facility that would extend eye services across the Karnali region.

The academy has been providing specialised services in several hospitals in the province.

Additionally, during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the medical team had also visited and provided healthcare services in Nepalgunj of Banke.
