By Amar Raj Naharki,Tanahun, Aug. 26: Riverbank erosion by the Seti River has displaced 21 families in Ward Nos. 4 and 8 of Shuklagandaki Municipality in Tanahun district. According to the Tanahun District Police Office, 21 of the 23 houses in the area were displaced after the land crumbled following riverbank erosion.

"The 21 houses along the riverbank are now unfit to stay. The Seti River has eroded the area. The displaced families have been relocated to a temporary shelter," said Chhabilal Rijal, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Tanahun. Officials informed that the river had entered the settlement through cracks formed in the land earlier due to which the land on which the houses were constructed crumbled.

According to CDO Rijal, Rs. 89,000 has been provided as immediate relief to the families for food and clothes. "Some families have taken shelter at their relatives' house. Others are living in monasteries," said Superintendent of Police (SP) Abadesh Bista, the chief of Tanahun District Police.

According to the Tanahun District Administration Office, there is a provision of compensation of Rs. 400,000 to families affected by monsoon disasters. "The process to provide the compensation to the affected families is underway," CDO Rijal added.
