Landslide-affected residents of Barhabise relocated

By Chitra Mijar,Sindhupalchowk, Aug. 19: The residents affected by the Sirise landslide in Barhabise Municipality of Sindhupalchowk have been relocated to safer zones. The municipality has supplied tents to ten families impacted by the incident.

The Mayor of the municipality, Bal Krishna Basnet, said that the municipality has arranged all facilities like food, water, and sanitation for the affected families. A dry landslide had an impact on ten households in Sirsire on Wednesday.

The local Police Office, Armed Police Force, Nepali Army, and all local people were engaged in the rescue and sheltering of the affected individuals. 

Among the affected houses, the house of Dipesh Bhandari was completely swept away by the landslide. Luckily, there were no human casualties. The landslide ripped through a slope around five hundred meters above the road and settlement, blocking the Bhote Koshi River for more than 50 minutes.

The Barhabise-Kodari Highway was blocked for over 17 hours by the landslide. The road was cleared with the effort of Barhabise Municipality and the Road Division Office.
