Police, Army, AFP start Volleyball Club League with victory

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, July 9: Nepal Police Club, Tribhuwan Army Club and APF Club made a winning start in the 7th NVA National Volleyball Club League 2080 in Kathmandu on Saturday.

Police struggled to beat foreign players studded Gandaki Province Volleyball Club 3-2 in the men’s section.

Police took the first two sets by 25-21 and 25-16. Gandaki bounced back to claim the third set by 25-13. Police squandered its six points lead to give away the fourth set to Gandaki by 24-26. Police gathered its composure to clinch the fifth set by 15-10 to open the account with two points. 

Gandaki collected one point.  

Army eased past Sailung Baghdhunga Sports Club in a straight three set of 25-8, 25-13, 25-17. The comfortable win earned Army three points in the league.

Similarly, APF earned three points with a straight three-set victory over Dawanli Milan Club. APF downed Dawanli 25-22, 25-13, 25-23. 

In the women’s section, Police rallied past Gandaki 25-10, 25-10, 25-11 to earn three points. 

The league winner will bag the spot in the CAVA Club League Championship to be held in Nepal in December. The winner in both men’s and women’s sections will earn Rs. 600,000 

in prize money. 

The best male and female players will bag Rs. 35,0000 each. 

Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha inaugurated the league handing over the volleyball to international referee Gautam Prasad Lasiwa.
