By Hari Prasad Koirala,Urlabari, July 6: Minister for Youth and Sports Dig Bahadur Limbu said that studying history can support present innovations. He said this while unveiling a life-size statue of historian Iman Singh Chemjong built by the Iman Singh Chemjong Memorial Foundation in Letang, Morang, on Wednesday.
Calling him a national hero, Minister Limbu said that Chemjong should not be viewed as someone from a particular ethnic community. Praising Chemjong, who founded the Limbuwan Reform Association in 1953 to demand rights and preserve culture, Limbu said, "He is a scholar for all indigenous nationalities of the world."
He also said that it was not enough to simply erect a statue. "The new generation should follow the path shown by Chemjong."
Further, the Minister stated that since the country's economy was in a weak state, projects needed to be selected on a priority basis. He also urged all to remember that wide roads and big buildings were not only development. "If there are starving people alongside those wide roads then that development will not deliver socialism," he said.
In a separate event, Limbu said that the government was preparing to include sporting activities and training in the school-level curriculum.
Inaugurating the building of the Letang Municipal Volleyball Club, he said that if 14-year-old children received training in the sport of their choice, it would help the nation produce great players.
Limbu had come to Morang, his home district, for the first time after becoming assuming office as a minister.
