Kathmandu, May 22: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has inaugurated the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) Women's Volleyball Challenge Cup here today.
Inaugurating the tournament organised by Nepal Volleyball Association with the support of National Sports Council, Prime Minister Prachanda wished for the success of the tournament.
On the occasion, he pointed out to the fact that it was during his second term as the prime minister that volleyball was declared as the national sports of the country. "I had the opportunity to announce volleyball as the national game. I am very happy and feeling pride to now get this opportunity to inaugurate the women volleyball tournament during my third term as the prime minister," he said.
A total of eight countries—India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, including host Nepal are participating in the tournament.
Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Kyrgyzstan are in group 'A' and Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are in group 'B'. The tournament will run until May 28. (RSS)
