By Chitra Mijar,Sindhupalchowk, May 17: The largest water supply project in Sindhupalchowk district has been successfully completed in Palchowk, located in Helambu Rural Municipality-3. This remote village in the district now enjoys a round-the-clock water supply with the construction of 599 taps.

Minister for Health and Population, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, inaugurated the water project. The construction of these taps began a decade ago, thanks to the tireless efforts of local elder and journalist Bishnu Khadka and Jimmy Tamang.

Under their initiative, the Water and Sanitation Development Office allocated a budget of Rs. 30.18 million for the project.

According to Jimmy Tamang, the Chairman of the water project, clean drinking water is being supplied to every household from Kundule Khola, which is located five kilometres away from the village.

Maiya Khadka, a 65-year-old resident of the village, recalled the years of hardships caused by dire water scarcity and expressed her newfound joy that her house receives water throughout the day.

For years, the residents of Palchowk had to spend hours fetching water from wells. After the 2015 earthquake disrupted the water source, the villagers faced mouting challenges in accessing drinking water.

During the inauguration of the water project, Minister Basnet stated that significant efforts will be made to improve various sectors such as health, education, and road infrastructure.
