By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, May 1: An extension construction for the Siddhartha Gautam Basic School, located at Gaidahawa Rural Municipality in Rupandehi district, was inaugurated amidst a ceremony on Sunday.

With the support from Korean donors, the Um Hong Gil Human Foundation (UHGHF) built the new school infrastructure. The expanded RCC construction includes eight child-friendly classrooms on the top floor of the existing school building, according to a press release issued by UHGHF.

Around 500 people, including Captain Um Hong Gil, the Executive Director of UHGHF, Chairman of Gaidahawa Rural Municipality Surendra Paudyal, students of the school and parents attended the inaugural ceremony.

With this extension, UHGHF is planning to renovate the existing eight classrooms of the ground floor and toilet building as well. These structures were built with the financial and technical support of UHGHF back in 2012. At that time school has around 200 students but now it is serving around 380 students of nearby areas.

The school will have sufficient computer lab, and library facility will also be installed in the newly expanded classrooms. UHGHF will also provide sufficient furniture for office and classrooms.

The total cost of School Expansion Project is Rs. 12,200,000. Of this amount, UHGHF is planning to support Rs. 11,200,000 while the local government will bear the remaining Rs. 1,000,000. A tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed among UHGHF, Gaidahawa Rural Municipality and Siddhartha Gautam Basic School at the ceremony.

A group of Korean donors, including Kim Sung-il, former Chief of Staff of the Air Force of the Republic of Korea, also attended the ceremony. They inspired the students to pursue their dream through education.

UHGHF is a charity organisation that has been working in the education sector of remote parts of Nepal since 2009. It supports community schools with their infrastructural development to ensure them with quality education. The veteran alpinist and philanthropist Captain Um Hong Gil is the founder of this organisation.
