By Sher Bahadur Sarki,Bajura, Apr. 17: Lately, the risk of accidents on the road has been increasing because of the wheat thrown by the locals between the Daab Bazar and Martadi road under the Sanfe-Martadi Highway of Bajura.
Most of the locals of Budhiganga and Badimalika municipalities keep the wheat on the road for threshing which results in an increased number of accidents. With the start of the Nepali New Year, local people harvest ripe wheat and throw it in the middle of the road to thresh. Vehicle operators complained that now it is very difficult to drive on that part of the road.
Bhesraj Jaishi, the driver of the Mahakali Yatayat with registration No. 7 Kha 5335 bus, said that due to the practice of harvesting wheat and keeping it in the middle of the road, it is very difficult to drive on most of the roads from Daab in Bajura to Martadi.
He said that he asked the locals not to throw wheat on the road, but they denied his request. Ramesh Rawal, Ward Chairman of Budhiganga Municipality-8, said that although he had been informing the local people who blocked the road by placing wheat on the road, they should not do it on the road, however, the local people did not listen to him. He said locals started harassing him while asking the locals not to keep put on the road.
“We will ask them again and if they still deny our request, we will ask the police to remove the wheat from the road,” Rawal said.
Locals of Daab, Khuna, Malika, Ritha, Betalmandau, Bamka, Falashain of Budhiganga Municipality, Tipada, Olena Rappa, Selaghat of Badimalika Municipality have been placing wheat on the road for thrashing in recent times.
District Police Office Bajura has informed that no information has been received from the local level about the need to remove the wheat that is kept on the local roads of Budhiganga and Badimalika municipalities.
Kishore Singh Airi, Information Officer at the District Police Office Bajura, said that as soon as the information came from the local level, wheat placed on the road would be removed.
