Kathmandu, Apr. 14: The start of a new year marks the beginning of fresh opportunities and a chance to cultivate a renewed sense of optimism. The filmmakers also choose this occasion to release their films with the hope of achieving success.
Also, people are more inclined to visit the cinema with their loved ones on holidays, and government gives public holiday on the New Year Day.
On New Year Day, people are in a celebratory mood and want to spend money on entertainment. Considering this feature of New Year Day, three new Nepali films --'Bulaki', 'Jaari', and 'Bihe Paas'-- are going to be released on Friday, the New Year's Day.
Actress Surakshya Panta, actor Naren Khadka, and debut actor Biraz Bista have done 'Bulaki'. Directed by Laxman Sunar, the film is all about the Jaari tradition prevalent in Karnali province.
Saraswati Khatri, Prakash Kandel, Laxmi Giri, Shusil Pokharel, Ramesh Budhathoki, Kuldip Adhikari, Upashana Nembang, Jhalanath Khatri, and Sonu Sedai are other actors of the film written by Raj Bahadur Sane.
Like 'Bulaki', the film 'Jaari' is also centered around the Jaari practice in Limbus. The film features Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar and Roydeep Shrestha in its lead roles.
The film is written and directed by Upendra Subba. Its actors are Prem Subba, Bijay Baral, Rekha Limbu, Anil Subba, Puskar Gurung, Kamal Mani Nepal, Upasana Nembang, Sita Kumari Tumbapo, and Panthak Thule.
The movie's plot revolves around a young woman from the Limbu community who is victimised by her husband and is compelled to voluntarily select another life partner.
Another film, 'Bihe Pass', directed by Prabesh Poudel is done by a horde of actors including Dayahang Rai,Prakriti Shrestha, Shishir Wandel, Buddhi Tamang, Rabindra Jha, Shyam Rai,Bishal Pahari, Subash Gajurel, Hiuwala Gautam,Rusha Neupane, Nabin Sherchan and Prakash Bhujel.
The movie portrays the struggle of actor Dayahang Rai in finding employment and highlights the Nepali society's belief that a government job is essential to get married. The film has been shot in various scenic locations across eastern Nepal.
The three movies have many similarities.
‘Jaari’ and ‘Bulaki’ have almost similar story, both attempting to portray the moderate aspect of ‘Jaari tradition’, that still exists among some castes.
The 'Jaari tradition' refers to the practice of providing compensation to the ex-husband of the new wife.
Likewise, Dayahang is the lead actor both in ‘Bihe Pass’ and ‘Jaari’ .
Meanwhile, five other Nepali films – ‘Prasad 2’, ‘Nai Nabhannu La 6’, ‘Jackie -I Am 21’, ‘Kaidi’, and Halkara - are scheduled to be released during the month of Nepali New Year. ‘Jackie-I Am 21', ‘Halkara’ and other three films are also scheduled to be released on April 28.
Release of the movie 'Prasad 2' was previously halted due to a short-term interim order issued by the Patan High Court on April 7. The screening of the film was halted as one of the producers, Keshav Pandey, filed a case in court to stop the screening after a controversy arose over financial transactions.
The release of the 'Nai Nabhannu La-6' was originally scheduled for New Year's Day, but due to delayed censorship, its release has been postponed.
‘Jackie -I Am 21’ is scheduled to be released on May 4 while ‘Halkara’ will be released on May 12.
