By Our Correspondent,Damak, Mar. 25: Former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli has said that the contribution made by the cooperative for poverty alleviation by integrating small capital is commendable.

He made this remark on Friday while inaugurating the cooperative housing constructed by the Mechi Cooperative located in Damak-4 of Jhapa for its members.

He said that providing comfortable houses to the poor through co-operatives is a model work in Nepal itself and that providing houses with the same facilities in one place is a matter of pride.

A total of 57 houses of the same type have been built in the cooperative settlement named ‘Mechi Awas’ and provided to the members of the cooperative who do not have a house.

Houses have been built on one-and-a-half bigha land. House receivers will pay the cost of real estate from their monthly income.

“If the cooperative had not been established, today the poor and those with scant money would not be able to get such a house,” said the former prime minister.

“Now we have to connect cooperatives and its members with production to become self-sufficient,” he said.

Oli urged cooperative workers and campaigners to pay attention to the fact that big changes can be made in the agricultural sector through cooperatives.

According to the executive chief of Mechi Cooperative Khom Prasad Bagale, they faced a lot of difficulties when they reached the transfer of cooperative housing.

He also claimed that the people who do not have a house got a house with property and this is the first in the field of cooperatives in Nepal.

The members got houses for less than Rs. 5,000,000 each, where all facilities such as roads, electricity, drinking water are available.
