Online, Kathmandu, March 13: The All Nepal's women Association(Revolutionary) has called the attention
of the concerned authorities to recent violence against women resulting in
death saying that these incidents compel us to take a hard look at the stance of today's
civilized society and appealing a collective effort to end violence against women.
Two violent incidents, one against 14-year-old Sita Gyawali from Sainamaina Municipality, Rupandehi on March 5 and another against 37-year-old Mamata Nepali from Tila Jumla on March 12 are hard examples of the deeply rooted male chauvinistic and superstitious belief system of Nepali society. The first incident was a result o the superstitious belief of parents which ended their daughter's life and the second incident resulted from the patriarchal belief system of a husband that beating his wife is forgivable, according to the press release by All Nepal's women Association (Revolutionary) on March 12.
These incidents stain the spirit of the democracy that a country is standing on. Therefore, all the concerned authorities need to make effort to end the violence against women considering it a violent crime against humanity and the guilty should be punished as per the law, read the statement.
