'Vice-President candidates should be different from President in gender and community'

Kathmandu, March 10: The Election Commission of Nepal has directed to register the nomination paper of candidates of different gender and community than that of the President for the upcoming Vice-President election.     

The election for Vice-President is on March 17 for which nomination paper is to be registered on March 11.     

In the instruction given to the Election Officer, the Commission mentioned that Ram Chandra Paudel was elected to the post of President in the cluster of Khas Arya.     

Hence, to go by the spirit of inclusiveness, the Vice-President candidate should be from different gender and ethnic community reads the press statement issued by Commission's Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudyal.     

According to the President and Vice-President Election Act- 2074 BS, the Vice-President candidate must be from different gender and community than the President. In the present case, the Vice-President should be Dalit, indigenous, Madheshi, Tharu or Muslim. (RSS)
