By Our Correspondent,Tanahu, Feb. 22: Wards of the people’s representatives of Abukhaireni Municipality, in Tanahun district, will now study in public schools.
A meeting of the rural municipality on Sunday decided that all the people’s representatives should send their children to community schools from the next academic session.
Sukra Chuman, chairman of the rural municipality, said maintaining quality education in public schools is essential to build people’s trust towards such schools.
He informed that since the government has not received the appropriate return from the investment made in public schools, they decided to compulsorily send the wards of the elected representatives to public schools to pave way for public schools to improve education standard.
“We believe this decision will help improve quality education and increase the public confidence in government schools,” said Chuman.
After such children start studying in government schools, the worsening results of government schools will improve and a learning environment will be created, he added.
Chief Administrative officer (CAO) Bishnu Prasad Sharma said that in order to improve the state of government schools, those people leading the state should send their children to government schools. Sharma said that preparations were also made to request the municipal employees and teachers to send their children to public schools.
“We expect this decision will help government schools outperform their private cousins,” informed CAO Sharma.
He said that from the next academic session, it has been made mandatory for the representatives to send their children to government schools.
There are 32 people’s representatives in the rural municipality. There are about 4,300 students in its 35 public schools.
According to the Village Council, preparation was made to hand over school buses to village municipality to make it easier for students to come to school.
According to the rural municipality, in the first phase, it will hand over school buses to three to five schools. Likewise, it has been decided to shift Indradevi Basic School to the office building of Ward No 5.
Ward Chairman Santosh Gurung informed that the school building was in a dilapidated condition and has no sufficient playground. According to him, it has been decided to operate Indradevi school from the ward office building until new arrangements are made.
“We are going to operate the school in the modern building and shift the ward office to the old building of the school,” said Gurung.
