People's War played principal role in changing political system: Minister Sharma

By Diwakar Pokhrel, Deukhuri, Feb. 13: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has remarked that the People's War played a principal role in bringing about the historic change in the political system of the country.

She emphasised that the government took the ownership of the People's War as it is a national matter, not a normal and particular political party specific matter.

"Positive political, social, economic and cultural changes were made possible in the strength of the People's War. Rights and achievements institutionalized in the strength of the PW are national asset and the PW itself is something common of all," said Minister Sharma addressing a programme organized to mark the 28th People's War Day in Dang today.

The Minister made it clear that republic political system, inclusive and proportional provisions, secularism were made possible due to the People's War.

Minister Sharma, who is also the government spokesperson, said the government is committed to performing pro-people works by institutionalizing achievements made through the People's War, people's movement and other different struggles.

"The government has honoured and delivered justice to the People's War by announcing a public holiday today," she said, while observing that although the Maoists suffered split, the country has been moving forward with consensus on the agenda put forth by the Maoists and that national politics of consensus is moving ahead currently in the leadership of Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda'.
