blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 24: Staging of the play Maujang Babusahebko Kot, originally written by revered storyteller Bhawani Prasad Gupta (Bhawani Bhikshu), has begun at Shailee Theatre here since Monday.

Directed by Vivek Neupane, the play has a theatrical adaptation by Sabin Neupane.

Even though this story was written by Bhikshu many years ago, it is still relevant to the present society, said Sabin.

Maujang Babusahebko Kot is a story based on the psychology of a Rana aristocrat Maujang Babusaheb who represents a bad-tempered, rude, and irrepressible character.

Maujang Babusaheb, the main character of the story, had an overcoat which he received from a Rana general. That coat is everything to him. He treats the coat as his prestige and he kept it with a great care.

In every formal and informal event, he used to wear the coat and walked with a great dignity. The coat was very famous among the people and it represented Maujang Babusaheb's power in politics.

However, with the end of the Rana rule and the decline in the respectability of the coat, the psychology that arises in Maujang Babusaheb is included in the story.

Artistes including Saroj Aryal, Rita Thapa, Santosh Thapa, Sanu Pandey, Diwakar Ghimire, Pranesh Gautam, Sabin Luitel and Sunil Khadka have done the drama.

The play will be staged at Shailee Theatre till February 8.
