By Our Correspondent,Butwal, Jan. 13: In the first five years since the establishment of Lumbini Provincial Government, 749 kilometers of roads have been blacktopped in the province.
Likewise, 988 kilometers of roads have been graveled and 3,345 culverts and causeways have been constructed. According to the progress report released by outgoing Chief Minister, Kul Prasad KC, other major works done by the state government in that period is construction of 74 motorable bridges and 23 suspension bridges.
Other works include construction of irrigation facilities reaching more than 12,000 hectares of land, 266 irrigation dams and 537 kilometers of canals.
Sixty eight lift irrigation, 174 deep tube wells, 265 pump houses and 122 km of river control projects were successfully completed. Similarly, 2,115 hectares of land have been raised by river control, and 14,600 houses have been protected by the river control and embankment.
The report mentions that 576 people have received assistance under the programme of providing Rs. 200,000 assistance per person for the treatment of diseases related to heart and kidney and cancer by the provincial government.
"For the prevention, treatment and control of COVID-19, a dedicated Covid hospital was built and patients were treated, all district hospitals were upgraded to 50-bed hospitals, two provincial hospitals were upgraded to provide special services. Rapti and Lumbini provincial hospitals started outpatient services and general bed services free of cost from the beginning of this fiscal year 2022/23," read the report.
Likewise, sickle cell corners have been established in eight hospitals for the diagnosis and treatment of sickle cell, expert doctor deployment procedures have been implemented to provide specialist medical services in remote districts, provincial governance laws and regulations have been formulated and implemented, according to the report.
