Poultry farmers seek government assistance

blog

By Our Correspondent,Tanahun, Jan. 2: A Layer Poultry Farm has been established in Dhaireni of Myagde Rural Municipality-6, Tanahun.

Amrit Thapa and Guru Prasad Paudel have invested Rs. 60 million in the farm.

Nine people have got jobs in the farm and 15,000 eggs are being produced daily, said Thapa.

He said that 19,000 chickens in the farm are producing that number of eggs daily.

Thapa informed that 15,000 eggs are produced as 80 per cent of the chickens in the farm lay eggs.

Another owner of the farm Paudel informed that the firm was brought into operation six years ago to make good use of the slope land of the village as the land is increasingly left barren due to growing migration.

He informed that the produced eggs are being supplied to Pokhara, Kathmandu and Chitwan.

Paudel said that there is a problem of transportation because the roads are not good and the price of grain is increasing day by day, so it is difficult to make a profit.

He said that the daily expenses of the farm amount to Rs. 120,000 and only the operating expenses are covered from sales.

According to Thapa, if the government provided subsidy in the purchase of feed grains and transportation on the basis of production, the need to import chicken and eggs from India would come to an end and farmers would also benefit.

He informed that it was easy to operate the business because he had the knowledge of egg production and chick rearing.

Thapa said that they have demanded for the upgrading of the road to the Myagde Rural Municipality as there is a lack of good road facility.
