Former ambassador Acharya’s ‘Diplomatic Diary’ released

Kathmandu, Dec 31: Nepal’s former ambassador to People’s Republic of China Rajeshwor Acharya’s ‘Diplomatic Diary’ encompassing different issues of diplomatic area including Nepal-China relations has been released in the capital city on Saturday.

Former Minister for Foreign Affairs Bhekh Bahadur Thapa released the book.  

In his book, the writer has included the anecdotes of bilateral meetings, discussions, cooperation and agreement and his own learning and experiences gained during his ambassadorial assignment in Beijing. 

The book also includes rise and impacts of Chairman Mao Zedong, one-China policy, concerns of China on Kalapani, China visit of then king Birendra, Nepal visit of Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji, economic diplomacy and several other issues.

Acharya served as Nepal’s ambassador to China for almost four years since October 1998.  

Acharya has stated that the book is dedicated to former king Birendra and first people-elected Prime Minister the late BP Koirala. 

Reviews and comments of noted scholar Kedar Bhakta Mathema, diplomat Hiranyalal Shrestha, journalist Dhruba Hari Adhikari and Kamala Acharya have been included in the book.

The book also mentions some facts and issues about Magnolia and North Korea.

Public transportation, civil aviation, railways and several other achievements have been made due to proper implementation of time, Acharya has stated in the book adding that huge investment in research and development has yielded better skills and personality development. 

During the book release event, former Minister Thapa stressed the need of working for national interest by maintaining balanced relations with the neighbouring countries.

Likewise, former secretary Chiran Shumsher Thapa said China has always treated Nepal with dignity despite political upheavals. 

Former ambassador Hiranyalal Shrestha said the book has carried a message that the ambassador should work placing topmost priority for national interests, not merely working as a political party’s representative.
