blog

By Our Correspondent,Sarlahi, Dec. 29: Minimum temperature in the Terai districts including Sarlahi dropped to the lowest this winter on Wednesday. The temperature in Sarlahi dropped to 9 degree Celsius Wednesday morning. In the previous days, the minimum temperature of the district was around 11 to 12 degree Celsius.

The residents of the district felt extremely cold because of the fall in the mercury and thick fog throughout the day. The poor, Dalits, labourers and farmers have been affected the worst by the cold.Students who have to go to school are also affected by the cold.

The people of the  backward communities like Dom, Chamars, and Mushars, who do not have warm clothes to wear and sleep in the night, are forced to  spend the night braving the piercing cold.

To beat the cold, the locals are making fires in their houses and the market places.

Doctors have suggested that children, elderly people and physically disabled people should take special care and eat plenty of soft and hot food. In the Terai region, the temperature has been continuously plummeting since the last week of December.

Three people had already died of cold in Haripur and one in Hariwan of the district. Meanwhile, Our Bardiya correspondent adds that cold wave and thick fog have affected normal life in the district.

The locals have been unable to see the sun since Tuesday, and in lack of sunshine, the temperature is falling. Many people could be seen making fires in different places to keep themselves warm.
