Kathmandu, Dec 22 : Newly elected members of the House of Representatives are taking oath of office and secrecy at 1:00 pm today.
A programme has
been scheduled for swearing-in ceremony at the Federal Parliament Building, New
Baneshwor, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
There is a
provision that the eldest member of the HoR would administer oath of office and
secrecy to other members before the election to the post of the Speaker.
In this
connection, President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday administered oath of
office and secrecy to the eldest member of the Lower House, Pashupati Shumsher
JB Rana.
The eldest HoR
member takes oath of office and secrecy from the President and he/she
administers the oath of office and secrecy to other members later, as per the
constitutional provision.
There is the
constitutional provision that the seniormost member of the House of
Representatives by age among the members present will preside over the meeting
of the House in case the Speaker and Deputy Speaker has not been elected or
both the posts remaining vacant.
The Federal
Parliament has urged the MPs-elect to be present for the swearing-in with the
certificate of the Member of House of Representatives issued by the Election
Commission, a copy of the Nepali citizenship certificate and two copies of
recent passport size photos.
The Secretariat
has also requested the MPs-elect to be present for the oath-taking ceremony in
national attire or the dress reflecting respective cultural identity.
Likewise, the
newly-elected HoR members have been urged to provide to the Secretariat a copy
of the translation of the oath in their mother language if they wish to take
oath in their respective mother tongue. (RSS)
