Handicraft made by Tharu women (Photo Feature)

By Janu Pandey, Kapilvastu, Dec. 19: Kapilvastu district, Buddhabhumi-9 Baklipur's Sushila Tharu made Dhakiya, a traditional pot for household purposes three years ago. 

According to the Tharu culture, Dhakiya is used to store dry items that use for various worshipping events and marriage ceremonies.

After the modernization of the traditional skills now, Sushila is busy making traditional crafts along with Dhakiya.

With the building of the new crafts and the following tradition, craft items have gotten markets. 

She has been making more than 60 types of crafts for years. She said that her items reached local markets, Butwal, Pokhara, and Kathmandu among others.

According to her crafts have been selling from Rs. 500 to 3,500. 

With the rise in demand other Tharu women have also started craft building.
