Kathmandu, Nov. 2: Actor Saroj Khanal is all set to release his Bagan on February 24 next year. Bagan is Khanal’s debut film as a director.  The release date of the movie was announced amid a programme held to make public its lyrical video and teaser of its title song 'Udi Chhunu Chha Aakash' in the capital on Monday.

Actors including Nir Shah, Mithila Sharma, Karishma Manandhar, Saroj Khanal, Aakash Shrestha, new actress Pramila Karki and Bashundhara Bhushal have done the film.

According to director and screenwriter Khanal, he has raised the issue of widow marriage.

Khanal added, "If men need new life partner to spend the rest of their life after the death of their wives, do the widows not require similar partner?"

“This question touched me a lot. We are in the 21st century, we talk about equality but in practice, it is always otherwise,” he said.

Actress Bashundhara Bhushal said that the movie was about rights of women. A man needs another wife thirteen days after the death of his wife, but the society still doesn’t allow women to get married after her husband’s death, she said

Nir Shah said, "I have been fighting for the marriage of widows since I became aware of the disparity. My first film 'Sindoor' was also made on this issue.”

Actress Karishma Manandhar said that she never received the best actress award in her long film career. She said, “I have never received an award as the best acto although I have had such a long career, people always focus on my makeup and clothes. In 'Bagan', “I did the role that I had wanted to do.”

Producer Suresh Wagle said that film is not only a means of entertainment but it should also guide the society.

Executive producer Binod Manandhar said that Bagan needs everyone's support.

Gauri Shankar Dhuju has directed the cinematography of the movie edited  by Sandesh Shah.

The production team is planning to screen the film in various countries where Nepalis are living.
