Nepal reports 2,423 scrub typhus cases in 10 months

By Sirjana Khatri, Kathmandu, Oct. 15: More than 2,000 cases of scrub typhus have been recorded in Nepal this year.

According to Dr Gokarna Dahal, Chief of the Vector Borne Disease Control Section of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), from the beginning of 2022, a total of 2,423 cases of scrub typhus have been confirmed in more than 50 districts so far. 

Baitadi district has recorded the highest number of cases 210 whereas 157, 134, 113, 101, 84 and 44 cases have been recorded in Dadeldhura, Kanchanpur, Palpa, Sankhuwasabha, Chitwan and Kathmandu districts respectively. 

Dr Dahal said that the cases of scrub typhus in other districts have been recorded under 100.

According to him, the country witnesses scrub typhus cases every year in this season. There were 1,773 cases of scrub typhus across the country in more than 50 districts last year.
