Kathmandu, Aug 22 : The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has appointed singer Dibesh Pokharel, known as Arthur Gunn for his stage shows, as the world goodwill ambassador for Nepal's tourism.
Singer Pokharel is the runner-up of the 18th season of American Idol, a singing reality show.
Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Jeevan Ram Shrestha appointed Pokharel as the world goodwill ambassador in a programme held at the ministry on Sunday.
In the programme, Pokharel was also honoured for making an important contribution to introducing Nepal to the world.
Stating that he was happy to announce Pokhrel as the world goodwill ambassador for Nepal's tourism, Minister Shrestha appreciated the singer for playing an important role in making Nepal known to the world through his talent.
Born in Ravi Bhawan, Kathmandu, Pokharel went to America in 2014 to pursue his higher education.
He became popular with his presence on the stage of American Idol.
Minister Shrestha said that new talents in various fields had succeeded in giving Nepal a new identity in the world.
Pokharel expressed his belief that he would play a role in promoting the natural beauty, and biological and cultural diversities of Nepal, Mt. Everest, Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Janakpur, the birthplace of Sita, Pashupatinath, Muktinath, and other religious areas, as well as other natural and cultural heritage.
Pokharel pledged to support Nepal's tourism and culture promotion through music.
