Sunsari locals throng Koshi Wetland to beat the heat

blog

By Jaya Krishna Yadav, Inaruwa, Aug. 16: Heavy rainfall two weeks ago flooded the entire Koshi region. Most of the people were displaced due to the flood. But since then, the rainfall has stopped and the heat has continuously increased. As the summer heats up, there is less movement of people in the market and some schools are closed.

To beat the heat, several locals come to take a bath in the cold water of a wetland flowing through the Koshi River in Koshi Rural Municipality. During the summertime, there has been an increase in the number of people enjoying the heat and having fun in the wetlands of Koshi erosion in the Sripur area, which was destroyed by the devastating Koshi flood on August 18, 2008.

Mantun Yadav of Koshi Rural Municipality-6 Sripur said that most of the locals of the Sunsari district come to take a bath in the wetlands flowing through the Koshi River.

According to Yadav, the number of daily swimmers in the wetland in the border area of Koshi has increased in summer. In the past, only drivers used to bathe in the wetlands of Koshi, but now around 1,000 bathers come every day to enjoy the cool water.

Shankar Yadav, another local, said that since it is situated on the highway, the youth mostly come by motorbikes and some by jeeps, cars, and Scorpios to play in the water to beat the heat.

Surendra Mehata of Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality-2 took a two-hour bath in Koshi erosion only on Saturday. “I came here to cool my skin because I often sweat in summer,” he said.

Mehata said that he went there with his friends from a distance of 15 km from the border of Koshi.

Mehata said that he came to bathe in the Koshi wetland with his friends as he felt hot and dry as the temperature continued to rise.

Locals from Bhokraha Narsingh, Harinagar, Dewanganj, Duhvi, Itahari and Inaruwa have come to bathe in Koshi erosion.

Samasad Miya, another local, said that internal tourists have also increased because of wetland water in the area where the Koshi Refreshment Center is being constructed.

According to health workers, frequent bathing in summer increases blood circulation in the human body, so attention should also be paid to it.
