Tanahun, Aug 1 : Emerging singer Sanjeev Singh Rana has broken the notion that to become a successful singer, one has to live in Kathmandu.

He is continuing his musical journey while staying out of the capital.

After winning Paschimanchal Tara-2066, a singing competition held at the Khairenitar festival, in Tanahun, singer Rana began his career in music.

He said that he was inspired to continue singing after he received an award from former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.

Born in Deurali Nagar, Damauli, Byas Municipality-3, he came into limelight after struggling for years in his hometown.

Rana has also set an example for other singers that to make a name in music, passion for music matters, not the place where one lives.

With the ability to sing all types of folk, modern, and pop songs, singer Rana is getting increasingly busy.

He is often invited to fairs, festivals, and musical events at home and abroad.

Ye Mero Mama Phoolbhutte Jama, Dhan Mage Ta Chain Man Manage Diula, Maile Maya Layak, and Time Jastai are some of his popular songs.

The success he achieved has conveyed the message that failure is also a part of success.

“Staying away from the valley, it’s hard to stay in the music industry, but what keeps me going is the love my audience at home and abroad shower me with," said singer Rana.

He feels that his childhood passion for creating music is now slowly getting manifested. Rana said that even though he was pressured to join the Indian Army, he always dreamt of becoming a singer.

Rana's father is in the Indian Army.

Singer Rana said that his mother singing Tara Devi's songs in a melodious voice inspired him to embrace music in his childhood days.

"Since I was young, I wanted to become a successful artist by becoming a singer,” he added.

His experience has shown that artists have to struggle a lot as the opportunities are few in places out of capital.

"Winning the hearts of the audience is all that matter, not the place you hail from,” he said.

Apart from singing in 44 districts at home, the rising singer has performed in a number of other countries, including Hong Kong, Macau, Bangladesh, Qatar, Malaysia, and India.

Half a dozen of his albums have already been published.

Singer Rana was fascinated by song music since his childhood. He used to sing his favorite songs while cutting grass in the village, at fairs, or at the farmers’ markets.

At a young age, his friends used to push him to record songs. This made him feel that he has a flair for music and that has been a driving force ever since he said.
