First dance director Thapa receives Life Time Achievement Award

By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, July 29: Nepal’s first dance director Bhairav ​​Bahadur Thapa was honoured with Dirgha Sadhana Samman (Life Time Achievement Award) on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Nepal Folkloric Cultural Foundation on Wednesday. 

 Ninety years old Thapa was awarded with cash prize at ‘Creator Award and Cultural Programme- 2079’ held at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture. 

Bidur Giri of Nepal Samachapatra also received the Life Time Achievement Award for entertainment journalism along with cash prize and Kuber Giri of Ratopati was also honoured with entertainment journalism award. 

Likewise, senior Sahanai and Panche Baja player Aita Bahadur Pariyar was honoured with Folk Cultural Award.

 Former Vice-President of the Republic of Nepal Parmananda Jha, President of the Foundation Jogendra KC, filmmaker Narayan Puri and others presented the honours along with certificates and medals to them.

General Secretary of the Foundation Nripadhwaj Khatri informed that the Foundation, which was established in 2008, has been conducting various cultural programmes across the country.

 Similarly, former Vice President Jha said “I am happy to see my favourite Nepali folk dance and the respect given to senior dance director Bhairav ​​Bahadur Thapa.”

 Jogendra KC, president of the Foundation, said that he was very happy to introduce Nepali folk art and culture to the world through the Foundation. He said that those who have contributed to different fields of Nepali original folk culture would be honoured by holding various programmes in the future.

In the ceremony, composer Suresh Adhikari, artiste Uttam Sharma, singer and musician Shiv Raj Paudel, dance directors Dinesh Kumar Lama and Shambhu Shahi, and dancer Poornima Shrestha were awarded with institutional honours.

 Likewise, event director Nisu Kanta Jha, artiste Krishna Risal, singer Shishir Yogi also received certificates in the programme.
