Janakpurdham, July 28 : Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supply Dilendra Prasad Badu said on Wednesday that he had come to inspect the closed Janakpur Cigarette Factory with the aim of bringing it into reoperation. While inspecting the Janakpur Cigarette Factory in Janakpurdham, the capital of Madhes Province, on Wednesday, Minister Badu said that he was there to inspect the factory and to inquire about the reasons for its closure.

He said he wanted to inquire about the situation of the factory’s property and machines. During the inspection, Minister Badu said, “The government has also had the policy to increase national production by operating industries, so all the closed industries should be brought into operation in their full capacity. Reopening the industries is important to encourage investors, and bring in domestic and foreign investments.”

Minister Badu said that the government-owned Janakpur Cigarette Factory, Biratnagar Jute Mill, Hetauda Textile Industry, Butwal Thread Industry, and Gorakhkali Rubber Industry are currently closed, and they should be reoperated to reduce imports and increase exports. He also emphasized the reoperation of the closed private and government industries. In order to implement the decision made by the government, it is necessary to bring all the closed export-oriented industries into operation, Minister Badu said.

The government has also introduced a policy of giving concessions to the export-oriented industries, he added.

The factory’s buildings are now being used as an administrative block for the Madhes Province government and ministers’ residences.

Regarding the Madhes government’s initiative to bring the factory’s complex under it permanently, Minister Badu said, “The final decision of the government has not been made, the provincial government is also the part of the government.” He said that the process to reopen the industry would be begun only after consulting and interacting with the provincial government, industry and commerce association, and other concerned bodies.
