By Lilaraj Khadka Birtamod, July 17: The National Land Commission has handed over land ownership certificates to 28 landless families and unorganised settlers of Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-2, Jhapa.
Central Chairman of the commission Keshav Kumar Niraula handed over the certificates. For the first time the commission has distributed land ownership certificates to unorganised settlers in Jhapa. Earlier, the commission had only distributed land ownership certificates to landless squatters and landless
Dalits, said Niraula, adding, “This is the first time the commission has distributed land to unorganised settlers.
The land deeds have been provided to the households found utilising the plot. Yogendra Prasad Dulal, chief of Land Revenue Office Jhapa, said that this is the first stage of land ownership distribution in Jhapa and said it would be given continuity. Chairman of the rural municipality Manoj Prasai, said that all the landless, squatters and unorganised settlers of Buddhashanti would now get land ownership.
More than 5,000 residents of the rural municipality have been provided with land ownership certificates according to the promise made during the time of election, said Prasai.
Dambar Kumari Khadka, one of the beneficiaries of the programme, said that she received the land ownership certificate due to the efforts of the people's representatives and the commission.
Showing her land deeds, Khadka said she had been waiting for this day for many years and finally her dream came true. The commission has prepared a list of more than 5400 landless people in all seven wards of Buddhshanti Rural Municipality and the land deeds would be provided
after conducting necessary study, said Prasain. Chairman of the district-based office of the commission Tilak Pandey said that the problem of landless exists in 15 municipalities of Jhapa and the office has been working to provide the land after conducting study.
