COVID spreads in 49 more districts in a month

By Mahima Devkota, Kathmandu, July 15: Within the span of a month the cases of COVID-19 have been spread up to 58 districts in Nepal.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), there were nine districts having COVID cases on June 15 whereas by 14th July the number of Coronavirus infected districts reached 58.

Dr Sameer Kumar Adhikari, Joint Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) said that the new variant, B.A.5 along with negligence of people in adhering to the health safety standard is responsible for increasing COVID-19 cases. The 58 districts are in a yellow zone that indicates COVID-19 cases are between 1 to 100.

Out of 58 districts Kathmandu is in the red zone with 763 cases. The red zone indicates having COVID cases of more than 201.

On 15th June Jhapa, Morang, Saptari, Dhanusa, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Kaski, Arghakhanchi and Dang districts have COVID cases.

So far 19 districts are free from COVID-19. Those districts comprises Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Rasuwa, Khotang, Manang, Mustang, Mygadi, Kapilvastu, Gulmi, Rolpa, Dolpa, Jajarkot, Rukum West, Kalikot, Bajura, Dailekh, Mugu, Baitadi and Dadeldhura.

According to Dr Sher Bahadur Pun, Clinical Research Unit at Sukra Raj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku, though the number of COVID-19 cases is rising these days B.A.5 is less deadly than other variants while observing the scenarios of other countries.
