Kathmandu, July 12: President Bidya Devi Bhandari viewed that the country could not pursue socialism oriented economy as enshrined in the Constitution until a self-sufficient economy accompanied with replacement of imports.
For this, first priority would be to modernise and commercialise agriculture through the use of available resources in the country, suggested the President while addressing an event organised here on Tuesday by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to distribute the 'Pushpa Lal National Award, 2077/78'.
Similarly, job opportunities should be created through expansion of industries using domestic raw materials and production be increased, the President added.
"Political-economic system of any country is based on a certain theoretical concept. The Constitution has also aimed to establish socialism oriented governance system along with an independent national economy while getting economic growths through the maximum use of available resources through the public-private partnership".
Stating that role of Pushpa Lal Shrestha to the country's democratic and communist movements was always memorable, the President wished that each generation could be inspired by him.
