Baitadi, July 30: The rainfall coupled with storm has damaged maize crop in various parts of Baitadi district.
The storm damaged the maize at different places of Dogadakedar Rural Municipality and Purchaudi Municipality. The farmers said the maize was damaged when it was time to have cob.
A local from Dogadakedar Rural Municipality, Harish Joshi, informed that farmers were worried that damage of maize could cause food crisis.
Similarly, Janak Air informed that with the heavy rainfall and storm, the maize plant is destroyed much in Purchaudi Municipality-1 and 2.
Farmer Narendra Bista from Surnaya said maize is the major crop of the district. Insects like maggot damaged the maize earlier, now the storm lashed it.
Meanwhile, agriculture extension officer at Agriculture Knowledge Centre in the district, Narendra Bahadur Chand, has said the district was likely to have reduced amount of maize this time. For the last three years, the maize production has declined in the district due to fall armyworm and wild animals. (RSS)
