One more case of cholera confirmed in Kathmandu, total caseload climbs to 27

By Mahima Devkota, Kathmandu, July 8: Additional case of cholera has been confirmed in the Kathmandu Valley.

With this, the total caseload of cholera in the Valley has reached 27.

Dr. Chuman Lal Das, Director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) under the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), said that a woman aged 32 from Hari Siddhi Municipality has been diagnosed with cholera today.

She is currently receiving treatment at Sumeru Hospital.

Yesterday, three people from Kageshwari Manahara Municipality of age 10, 18 and 24 years tested positive for cholera on RTD testing.  They are currently at-home care.

So far, cholera has been confirmed by stool culture, RTD testing and hanging drop methods. 10 tested positive for cholera on stool culture, 13 tested positive in RTD testing and four in hanging drops. The first case was reported by the Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital (STIDH) on 16 June.

The STIDH reported 2 cases on 16 June, 1 case on 17 June, 1 case on 19 June with an additional case on 21 June 2022. Two cases are residents of Bagbazaar, Kathmandu-28, 1 case is a resident of Sanepa, Lalitpur3, 1 case from Dilibazaar, Kathmandu and 1 case each from Bohoratar, Balaju, and Kathmandu-16.

Similarly, the Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) reported 1 microbiologically confirmed case of Cholera through EWARS on 20th June in a resident of Kapan, Budhanilkantha-10.
