Paddy plantation begins in Achham

By Our Correspondent, Mangalsen, May 31: After the completion of the local level election, many farmers in Achham district are now busy planting paddy in the paddy fields having easy irrigation facilities. 

Paddy plantation has begun in the lower area located near the river banks. They are planting paddy by bringing water from the Karnali River, Kailash Khola and other small rivers through canals.

People who returned home from India for the election are now busy in preparing field and transplanting paddy. They have started planting paddy from Babla to Chitre in Sanfebagar Municipality and from Ramarosan to Chhayatada of Mangalsen Municipality.

 Tek Bahadur Thapa, a local of Mangalsen Municipality, said plantation started in the fields with access to irrigation facility. According to locals, farmers with their farms close to rivers like Karnali, Budhiganga and Kailash Khola are now planting paddy.

Farmers use traditional methods and seeds. 

They go to each other’s fields to help plant paddy and have fun. They sing songs, play deuda, play instruments and even offer tika to the oxen, said Durga Prasad Bhandari, a resident of Mangalsen Municipality.
