Vote count in four local levels underway, yet to begin in one

Kathmandu, May 25 (RSS): Vote count in four local levels is still underway despite the conclusion of the May 13 local election 12 days ago. However, it has yet to begin in Budhiganga Municipality in Bajura district.


Vote count in Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Garuda and Phatywa Bijayapur Municipalities in Rautahat district and Triyuga Municipality in Udayapur district is ongoing, according to the Election Commission. 

According to latest update, independent candidate for KMC mayor Balendra Sah leads the vote count with 48,432 votes. He is followed by his nearest rival Nepali Congress's Sirjana Shrestha with 30,397 votes. 

Likewise, deputy mayoral candidate Sunita Dangol from the CPN (UML) is ahead of her closest contender Rameshwor Shrestha from the CPN (Unified Socialist). So far, Dangol has secured 53,642 votes while Shrestha has 17,756 votes. 


Mayoral candidate in Triyuga Municipality Baldev Chaudhary is leading with 744 votes against 344 votes received by his nearest rival NC's Basanta Kumar Basnet. 

Deputy mayor candidate Gita Khadka Karki from the CPN (Maoist Center) is ahead of her nearest contender Sarita Rai from the NC. Karki got 818 votes and Rai 320 votes. 

UML's candidate for Garuda Municipality mayor Kanthamani Prasad Kalawar is leading with 3,807 votes while his closest rival Unified Socialist's Brij Kishwor Prasad Yadav has got 3,418 votes. 

For deputy mayor, NC's Punam Kumari Chaudhary is ahead of her closest contender Bindu Kumari Devi from the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal. Chaudhary has managed 5,148 votes and Devi 3,164 votes. 

NC's Gopal Raya Yadav, mayoral candidate in Phatuwa Bijayapur Municipality, is leading with 4,117 votes against 2,922 votes secured by his nearest contender UML's Bijaya Yadav. 

Similarly, NC's deputy mayoral candidate Amabeya Khatun is ahead of her nearest rival UML's Kanti Devi. Khatun got 4,251 votes and Devi 3,270 votes. 

According to latest election results, the NC has won in 326 local levels including 138 municipalities and 188 chair seats followed by the UML with 204 local levels including 81 municipalities and 123 rural municipalities. 

Similarly, the Maoist Center won in 121 local levels including 25 municipalities and 96 rural municipalities.
