Government to adopt policy of labour audit

Kathmandu, May 25: The government on Tuesday announced plans to finalise the bill to amend the Citizenship Act, under consideration in the Parliament, based on consensus.

The policy and programme of the government unveiled by President Bidya Devi Bhandari mentioned that the Citizenship Bill will be finalised soon.

Addressing both the Houses of the Federal Parliament, President Bhandari said, “Initiatives will be taken to finalise the Citizenship Bill under consideration in the Parliament on the basis of consensus at the earliest.”

The government has also adopted the policy of ‘labour audit’ to prevent child labour.

To prevent the child labour, the government has decided to make ‘labor audit’ mandatory in government and private institutions.

The policy and programme of the government mentioned that “Rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration programs for child labourers will be conducted in coordination and cooperation with the federal, state and local levels as well as the private sector.”

The policy of the labour audit will be made mandatory in both government and private institutions.

Similarly, the government has also announced plans to make economic empowerment of violence- affected women more effective by introducing immediate rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration.

President Bhandari said the government will adopt a policy to institutionalise a gender responsive governance system by ending all forms of violence, exploitation, abuse and discrimination against women, sexual and gender minorities.

She said that proportional representation of women and Dalits would be ensured at the grassroots level of the state and the Presidential Women’s Upliftment Program would be made effective. The government forwarded its plan to make the President Air Rescue Programme more effective.

According to her, the government would create more child shelter homes in coordination and support of provincial and local governments.  

The government has also forwarded its plan to make the juvenile justice system effective. “Additional juvenile correctional facilities will be constructed while infrastructure of the existing juvenile correctional facility will be strengthened,” said President Bhandari.

The government has also announced the formulation of the ‘National Senior Citizens Policy’ to protect the rights of senior citizens.

Likewise, coordination units will be formed at the national level in collaboration with the provincial and local levels to protect and address the issues of women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and sexual and gender minorities.

The government forwarded its plan to ensure the rights of children by ensuring access to basic health care, education and nutrition.
