Voice of those who walked 13 hrs to vote

blog

By Rajan Rawat, Humla, May 22: Locals of Maspur village at Tanjakot Rural Municipality Ward no. 3 had to walk for 13 to vote in the local level election held recently on May 13.

They had to walk for no polling center was set up near their village.

Dhana Rupa Budha, a local, complained that it was difficult for them to vote due to the lack of a voting center in their village.

"We had urged the concerned authority to make arrangements for us to vote near our village, and we had that hope. But, our request went in vain," she said.

The Maspur locals reached the polling center set up at Chhaprela, the seat of the rural municipality, on the eve of voting day and participated in the voting on May 13.

Jagat Bahadur Paudel, chief election officer of Humla district, vowed to draw the attention of the upper levels to consider the hardships of the Maspur people to vote in the lack of a polling center in their locality.

Women with children and senior citizens could not come for voting as they could not walk for so long although they were eager to vote and thus elect their leaders, said local Dhanrupa Budha.

In the local poll held in 2017, a person from a household had come for voting, but this time the number was greater despite the similar hardship.

There are 75 voters of 23 households in the Maspur village.
