By Gopi Gyawali, Nawalparasi, April 29: Only 65 per cent of the construction of a suspension bridge supposed to be built six years ago has been completed so far.

The construction of the suspension bridge over the Narayani River connecting Susta of Nepal with the western Nawalparasi was started in 2015 with the contract to finish the construction within 30 months.

Gauri Kumar Shrestha, senior divisional engineer of the suspension bridge division, admitted that the construction has been delayed and informed that direction has been made to the concerned construction company to complete it immediately.

The duration for completion of the suspension bridge has been added time and again for the last six years.

The Trishuli JV Aashrya Construction Company had won the bid to build the bridge considered to be the longest suspension bridge in the country.

Gopal Thapa, a sub-engineer of the bridge department, said that the Indian side opens the doors of the Gandak barrage without prior notice which also causes problems in the construction.

The 1,558 meter-long Susta Suspension Bridge will have 14 pillars. Out of the total, nine pillars have been built so far, said Thapa.
