The producer and director of the film ‘Dimaag Kharaab’, which was released in local cinemas recently, have warned that they will halt screening of the film in local theatres, citing inequality in the number of shows offered to them and revenue distribution. Fed up by the injustice meted out against their film by the distributors, producer Raunak Bikram Kandel and director Nischal Basnet issued a press statement demanding fair treatment to local Nepali films. In the press statement, they stressed that unless Nepali films are granted an equal number of screenings and an equitable share of revenue compared to foreign films, they may suspend the film’s screening in Nepal. They complained that the theatres were not providing enough shows and insisted on equal screenings for Nepali films compared to foreign ones.
A memoir ‘Katha Bhitrako Katha’ (The story within the story) by Gopal Poudel was released in Palmerston North City, New Zealand, recently. Lawmaker Utikere appreciated Poudel for his commitment to the literary and ethnic identity of Nepalis. Mayor Smith said that Poudel was the first person from the refugee community to produce quality creative works. Essayist Nayaghare said that Poudel was committed to promoting Nepali language, literature and culture and expressed his belief that the book would receive special space.
All 77 districts of Nepal have been declared diclofenac-free. The first Vulture Conservation Summit in Kathmandu in 2004 decided to ban the use of diclofenac. To save the vultures, the government of Nepal imposed a ban on the production, import, sale, and use of diclofenac in 2006. Over the 17 years, all districts have been declared free of diclofenac. Dang district was declared diclofenac-free for the first time in 2010. Since 2002, there has been a rapid surge in the death rate of vultures. Krishna Prasad Bhusal, a vulture conservation expert, stated that the vulture population in South Asia has decreased by more than 95 per cent during this period.
