As a grand event that is largely attended by married women and marks the complete submission of devotees before the Chhathi Maiya, the Chhath festival – which is linked to faith, purity, and devotion to the sun god – has evolved into a Mahaparva. The festival is observed on the sixth day of the month of Kartik. Nonetheless, the term ‘Chhath’ originally meant "sixth" in ancient Prakrit, as the festival is observed twice a year on the sixth lunar day of the Hindu calendar months of Kartik and Chaitra. The number of people coming to the Muktinath Temple has, of late, been increasing. According to the Muktinath Area Development Committee, around 2,000 people have been coming to the temple every day. According to the committee, the Dashain and Tihar vacations served to increase the number of domestic visitors to the temple. Construction of the Russian Buddhist Temple has begun in Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha. The new Buddhist temple will be constructed in the style of the 108-year-old Russian monastery in St. Petersburg, Russia. Er. Prabin Gauchan, Coordinator of Russian Monastery Nepal, said that the construction of the structure has started in the joint initiative and efforts of the Russian Embassy in Nepal, the Russia Nepal Friendship Association, the Russian Buddhist Temple Construction Foundation and Russian Buddhist pilgrims with an investment of Rs. 300 million. Gauchan said that the construction of the temple in the shape of a Russian monastery has started in one bigha land within the area of the Lumbini Development Trust. The temple is expected to be ready by 2025.
