Net profit of state-owned telecom company - Nepal Telecom (NT) - has decreased during the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2023/24. Net profit of NT has decreased by 8.9 per cent during the first quarter of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last fiscal year, according to a press statement of the NT. The company has earned a net profit of Rs. 2.02 billion in the review period of the current fiscal year 2023/24 while it had earned a net profit of Rs. 2.22 billion in the first quarter of the last fiscal year 2022/23. Meanwhile, the operating income of the company has decreased by 5.43 per cent during the review period.

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has directed to complete the construction of 220/132 kV substation under construction at Bahrabise in Sindhupalchowk immediately. The high-level officials of NEA have instructed to complete the construction of the substation to connect electricity of the 102-megawatt Madhya Bhotekoshi hydroelectric project constructed under the leadership of Chilime Hydropower Project in Sindhupalchowk district.
There is a shortage of staff at the Yari Naka Customs Office near the border of Nepal and China. Due to the fact that the Department of Customs is not able to manage the staff according to the required posts, there is a shortage of staff and it affects daily works. Ramraj Jaisi, chief of the customs office, said that there is a problem in revenue collection due to the lack of sufficient staff in the office. He complained that due to the fact that he was the only employee, there was a problem to check goods and issue bills of goods in the office. He said that some goods were being sent out without customs clearance while he was engaged in issuing bills of the goods for customs clearance.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said that he will clearly state the impact of global warming in Nepal during the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Addressing a peace lamp handover and flag hoisting programme organised by Nepal Mountaineering Association at Kalapatthar of Everest Base Camp, Solukhumbu, he said rather than seeking assistance for mitigating global warming, the right for a good environment would be raised in the conference. “We cannot pay the price for things we haven’t committed. Those accountable for carbon emissions should take responsibility and provide compensation through the Climate Fund. Rather than seeking assistance in COP-28, preparations are underway to present the issue as a matter of right rather than a demand,” he added.
After wrapping up the Tihar festival, Hindus in Nepal are now celebrating another famous festival – Chhath – on Sunday by praying and making offerings to the setting Sun in the evening. Sunday has also been declared a national holiday. But it is not the only day the festival is observed. Chhath is celebrated for four days, with the first day being Nahaya Khaya, second day Kharna, the third day being the day to pray to the setting sun and the fourth day the day to pray to the rising sun. On the first day, devotees take a dip in holy rivers and ponds, and clean their houses and surroundings. They also take food laced with ghee, and rice and milk, but refrain from consuming salt, onion, ginger and garlic.
