Sirens installed in Bajura’s landslide-prone settlements
A pre-landslide warning machine (siren) has been installed in the landslide-prone Bajedi settlement of Budhiganga Municipality-2, Bajura district. This settlement is prone to landslides during the rainy season, so a siren has been installed to alert the residents of probable landslides. Dinesh Raj Jaisi, a local resident of Bajedi in Budhiganga Municipality-2, said, “I have spent fearful nights wearing a watch, fearing the overflow of water every time it rains heavily during the rainy season.” He further stated, "The installation of a siren that provides advance notice of coming landslides and floods in the village has reduced our fear.” Before the installation of the siren, the residents of Bajedi were compelled to spend sleepless nights fearing the probable landslide, but with the installation of two sirens in the village, people could be made aware of the probable landslide in advance and could escape the disasters.
Farmers worry as they fail to sell flowers
Farmers of Tanahun district have been disappointed after they failed to sell flowers even during Tihar when the demand for flowers is often high. Flower production was high this year compared to the previous year in the district. The farmers were encouraged to produce more flowers this year seeing the domination of imported and artificial flowers in markets the previous years. While local flowers were in high demand in the market in other parts of the country during Tihar, the businessmen in Tanahun could not find a market to sell flowers. The farmers said that they were worried when the flowers they failed to sell on the day of Laxmi Puja remained unsold even till Bhai Tika this year. Demand for flowers is high on the day of Laxmi Puja. Businessmen complained that the flowers were not sold even at a cheaper rate. Sushan Paudel, a local of Myagde Rural Municipality -5, said that they faced problems in selling flowers in Tihar this year.
'Climate change grave threat to humanity'
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the effect of climate change on the Himalayas has posed severe threat to the lives and livelihoods of millions of people living in our region. Addressing the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit virtually on Friday, Prime Minister Prachanda said that climate change remains a grave threat to humanity. “Climate vulnerable countries like Nepal have been bearing the burden of climate change,” he said.
VP Yadav extends Chhath best wishes
Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has wished for the happiness, prosperity and good health of all Nepalis on the occasion of the Chhath festival. Chhath is a four-day festival celebrated by worshipping both the rising and the setting sun. As per the greeting message issued by the Vice President, the worship is a way to thank the sun for helping sustain life on Earth. According to Vice President Yadav, the festival also represents human’s relationship with nature and strengthens ethnic harmony. Baskets, lamps and other objects made by members of the so-called low caste Dom, Mali and Kumhale groups are integral to Chhath celebrations. In addition to the sun, worshippers also pray to the Chhathi Maiya. Chhathi Maiya is considered the sister of the sun god Surya Dev. She especially protects children.
Water sources decorated for Chhath in Madhes, Koshi
The Chhath Ghat (banks of water sources) of various places of Madhes and Koshi Provinces are decorated and embellished on the occasion of the Chhath festival. The Chhath festival, which is celebrated by worshipping Sun God, began on Friday by observing the Nhaya-Khaya (eat pure food after taking bath) ritual. With the commencement of Chhath, ponds, rivers, houses, villages and streets of Janakpurdham including Mithila region have become lively with Chhath songs. The houses are decorated with colourful lights. The festival is observed for four days from Katik Shukala Chaturthi to Kartik Shukala Saptami. All the ponds of Janakpurdham are adorned with lights and flowers. The Chhath festival is celebrated wishing for happiness, peace and long life of family members. Priest Gangakant Jha, a resident of Janakpurdham and an expert of Maithil rituals, said that Arawa-Arawain can be observed on the day of Kartik Shukla Titriya. Coming from Sikkim to breed pure breed dogs
Milan Gurung, a resident of Sikkim, India, has come to Panibhitta, Yangwarak Rural Municipality–2, Panchthar, Nepal with his female dog to meet Surya Man Gurung. His neighbour Tenzing Bhotiya has also come with his female canine to Panibhitta to meet Kipalmu Sherpa. Both of them spent over ₹ 4,000 (Rs. 6,400) each and travelled days to arrive here. But why? “To breed true Bhote Dogs,” Milan said. “We will return once we are sure our dogs are pregnant.” Bhote Kukur, known as the Himalayan Sheepdog, is a breed of livestock guardian dog known for protecting flocks of yak and sheep from predators and for the guardian of the property of their owners. According to Milan, they come to Panchthar every year to mate their pets with the native Bhote dogs and produce purebred puppies.

Eight held on murder charge in Bardiya
