A pre-landslide warning machine (siren) has been installed in the landslide-prone Bajedi settlement of Budhiganga Municipality-2, Bajura district. This settlement is prone to landslides during the rainy season, so a siren has been installed to alert the residents of probable landslides. Dinesh Raj Jaisi, a local resident of Bajedi in Budhiganga Municipality-2, said, “I have spent fearful nights wearing a watch, fearing the overflow of water every time it rains heavily during the rainy season.” He further stated, "The installation of a siren that provides advance notice of coming landslides and floods in the village has reduced our fear.” Before the installation of the siren, the residents of Bajedi were compelled to spend sleepless nights fearing the probable landslide, but with the installation of two sirens in the village, people could be made aware of the probable landslide in advance and could escape the disasters.
Farmers of Tanahun district have been disappointed after they failed to sell flowers even during Tihar when the demand for flowers is often high. Flower production was high this year compared to the previous year in the district. The farmers were encouraged to produce more flowers this year seeing the domination of imported and artificial flowers in markets the previous years. While local flowers were in high demand in the market in other parts of the country during Tihar, the businessmen in Tanahun could not find a market to sell flowers. The farmers said that they were worried when the flowers they failed to sell on the day of Laxmi Puja remained unsold even till Bhai Tika this year. Demand for flowers is high on the day of Laxmi Puja. Businessmen complained that the flowers were not sold even at a cheaper rate. Sushan Paudel, a local of Myagde Rural Municipality -5, said that they faced problems in selling flowers in Tihar this year.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the effect of climate change on the Himalayas has posed severe threat to the lives and livelihoods of millions of people living in our region.
