Of the gender-based violence recorded in the country, 80 per cent are found to be domestic violence. According to the Nepal Police data, 53 per cent of the domestic violence is physical violence and 47 per cent is mental violence.

: With a sad face, Sujata Bohora was sitting near the offices of airline companies, which were crowded with people, around Simkot Airport. She was fed up as it was the seventh day she had come in search of an air ticket to fly back to Kathmandu from Humla, a district not connected with the national road network. Bohora, who studies in grade 12 in Kathmandu, had come to her hometown to celebrate the festivals of Dashain and Tihar. However, she has not been able to grab an air ticket to Kathmandu. “My classes have already resumed. Meanwhile, I am here struggling for an air ticket. I feel I made a mistake coming back home,” said Bohora. Likewise, Man Bahadur Bohora said that he has already missed five days of his college waiting for a ticket. Man Bahadur said he studied engineering in Pokhara.
The government of Japan handed over the newly constructed Maternity and Children’s Clinic to Suryodaya Municipality of Ilam district on Friday. The government of Japan had provided USD 84,277 (approx. Rs. 9.2 million) for the clinic’s construction under Japan’s grant assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP). According to the municipality, the clinic was constructed in Gogane, a village inhabited by Lapcha community, with the support of the municipality and locals as well. “The municipality contributed Rs. 6.4 million and locals provided Rs. 428,000 alongside voluntary labour worth Rs. 788,000 for the construction. Rs. 394,000 was also provided from local sources,” said Engineer Kabin Sapkota of the municipality.
Orange production has dropped in Syangja this year. It is estimated that orange production will decrease by about 25 per cent in the district this year as compared to last year. While around 22,000 tonnes of oranges were produced last year, it is initially estimated that around 17,000 tonnes of oranges will be produced this year. Madhav Lamsal, chief of the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernisation Project, Orange Super Zone Project, said that even though the production of oranges is reduced, the price will not vary much. He said, “This year, oranges have been produced thinly, but the size of the fruit is large, so there is no difference in price.” Lamsal said that it is natural for the production of orange to decline.
The import of electric vehicles has increased significantly during the first four months of the current fiscal year. According to the statistics of the Department of Customs, electric vehicles, including four-wheeler and three-wheeler worth Rs. 7.2 billion have been imported during the first four months of the current fiscal year 2023/24. During the review period, 2,787 electric cars, jeeps and vans have been imported. Out of them, 656 electric vehicles were imported in the month of Kartik alone. The country has imported 3,730 three-wheeler electric vehicles worth Rs. 370 million in the four months of the current fiscal year.
