Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand Sunday said that the government is committed to save the bright future of the young generation and protect the citizens from drug addiction. Speaking at a programme organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs in Kathmandu on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Khand said it was the responsibility of all to save the youth from drug addiction.
The House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday endorsed the bill related to the Public Service Commission. The bill, which was introduced in the House of Representatives on September 10, 2019, was initially endorsed on July 26, 2020 and forwarded to the National Assembly. The National Assembly also approved it on September 15, 2021.

Jayarani Tharu of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) set a new national record at the 400 metre Hurdles at 44th National Athletics Tournament held at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu on Saturday. Jayarani achieved the milestone as she broke the 10-year old record of Sabita Chaudhary set during the 6th National Games held at Dhangadhi. Chaudhary broke the decade old record after she completed her race at 01 minute 07.2 second to bag the gold medal by setting a new national record. Adikabi Bhanu Birthplace Development Committee has decided to organise a national level open poetry competition on the occasion of 209th Bhanu Jayanti. The competition will be held on July 12 in the birthplace of Bhanubhakta Acharya, Chundi Ramgha, a village in Ward No. 4 of Bhanu Municipality, Tanahun. Organising a press meet in Damauli, the committee informed that the cash prize for the winners of the poetry competition will be increased this year. Similarly, it will be a three-day celebration from July 11-13.
About 7 per cent local bodies have failed to present the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2022/23 by the stipulated date – 10th of Ashadh or June 24 this year, set by the Intergovernmental Fiscal Arrangement Act, 2017. Pokhara Metropolitan City has announced its budget a day later on Saturday while 26 municipalities and 25 rural municipalities couldn’t present their policy, programmes and budgets till Saturday.
Freed Kamlaries have been facing trouble in pursuing higher education after the government cut the budget. The budget used to cover the cost of their higher education along with hostel facilities. Organising a press conference at Ghorahi, in Dang, Kamlari Development Forum demanded the government provide budget for their education and dormitories.
The construction of Mainhiya-Sampatiya transmission line between Mainhaiya, Rupandehi, Nepal and Sampatiya, Uttar Pradesh, India has been affected because the land to be acquired and compensated has not been plotted. Authorities had aimed to complete work on the transmission line by the end of this fiscal year. However, the lack of plotting now threatens to jeopardise that plan, worried Hari Prasad Pandey, chief of the project management work on the 132 KV double circuit line.
Only 70 per cent works of Sikta Irrigation Project, a national pride project believed to be a revolution in agriculture sector of Banke, have been completed after 18 years of construction. Officials informed that the delay was the result of issues related to land acquisition and compensation. “Several public are in dispute regarding land acquisition and insufficient compensation. The issues have led public to obstruct the work on the project several times and it has barred us from completing the project soon,” said Santosh Kaini, director of the project.
Nearly half of 94 wards in Gorkha district do not have a ward secretary and they have to make to do with secretaries from other wards or even health post staff. Currently a single secretary in the district is looking after three ward offices. Chumanuwri Rural Municipality in north Gorkha has four secretaries for seven wards. Chief administrative officer (CAO) of Chumanuwri, Bhimsen Shrestha, informed that Bashu Dev Oli, Bed Prakash Dhakal, Ganesh Bhakta Tripathi are looking after two wards each while Bala Ram Pathak a single ward. Ward secretaries complained that it was hard to work as it takes more than a day to travel from one ward to another in the remote rural municipality.
Irrigation and drinking water projects have been completed in Ward No. 5 & 6 of Sanibheri Rural Municipality of Rukum West which was facing problems of irrigation and drinking water for many years. After the completion of the project, drinking water has reached every house of Dhanekhola Tole and irrigation facility has reached Ballebas. Dhanekhola Source Conservation and Drinking Water Sub-project and Ballebas Pipe Irrigation Sub-project have removed the problems of drinking water and irrigation after completing the project.
