Double gold medalist Jayarani sets new record

 By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, June 26: Jayarani Tharu of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) set a new national record at the 400 metre Hurdles at 44th National Athletics Tournament held at Dashrath Stadium, Kathmandu on Saturday.

Jayarani achieved the milestone as she broke the 10-year old record of Sabita Chaudhary set during the 6th National Games held at Dhangadhi.

Chaudhary broke the decade old record after she completed her race at 01 minute 07.2 second to bag the gold medal by setting a new national record. Earlier, Sabita Chaudhary of the Armed Police Force (APF) had set the national record by clocking 01 minute 07.7 seconds at the 6th  National Games held at Dhangadhi in 2012.

Similarly, Nirmala Thapa of TAC won the silver medal in the 400 metres hurdles after she completed the race in the 01 minute and 08.7 second and Kalpana Shrestha of APF clinched the bronze medal with a timing of 09 minute and 07 seconds.

Meanwhile, Ram Prasad Tharu of APF clinched the gold medal in the 400 metre Hurdles in the men’s category. Tharu kissed the gold medal after he completed the race in the 56.07 seconds while his teammate Jiveen Tharu lifted the silver medal after finished his race at 56.07 seconds and Mukesh Tharu of Madesh Province lifted the bronze medal after sealed the his race at the 65.01 seconds.

Likewise, Jayarani also claimed the gold medal in the women’s long jump after she jumped 5.13 metres while Shila Chaudhary of APF lifted the silver medal after she jumped 5.03 metres and Sima Chaudhary of Nepal Police Club (NPC) has satisfied with bronze medal after she jumped 4.78 metres.

Salim Diwam of APF clinched the gold medal in the men’s long jump. Salim jumped 6.85 metres to kiss the gold medal while Sher Bahadur Bista of TAC jumped 6.75 metre to win the silver medal and Sudeep Tharu of Lumbini Province had to be satisfied with the bronze medal as he jumped just 6.65 metre.

Kumal claims gold medal  

Som Bahadur Kumal of TAC claimed the gold medal in the men’s 800 metre hurdles. Kumal kissed the gold medal after he sealed his race in 01 minute 56.15 seconds while his teammate Sunil Sunwar bagged silver medal after he finished the race at 01 minute and 56.72 seconds and Police man Tej Bahadur Karki lifted the bronze medal with timing of 01 minute and 56.71 seconds.

Similarly, Phulmati Rana of APF kissed the gold medal in the women’s 800 metre hurdles after she completed the race in the 02 minutes and 16.8 seconds while Ram Maya Budha of Karnali Province lifted the silver medal after she completed the race in 02 minutes and 20.5 seconds and Radhika Shrestha of TAC has satisfied with bronze medal as she completed the race in the 02 minutes and 27.7 seconds.

Likewise, Shiva Raj Parkhi of APF clinched the gold medal at men’s 200 metres hurdles after he sealed his race at the 21.92 seconds while Dilli Bhandari kissed the silver medal with timing of 22.41 seconds and Aashish Chaudhary of APF had to be satisfied with bronze by clocking 22.50 seconds.

However, Sarswoti Chaudhary of TAC claimed the gold medal in the women’s 200 metres hurdles after she completed her race in the 25.48 seconds while Ramita Kumari Tharu of APF lifted the silver medal after she completed 200 metre in the 26.02 seconds and Lulja Amatya of Bagmati Province clinched the bronze medal as she finished her race at 27.40 seconds.
