Children are at a developing stage in their way of thinking, seeing, and defining life. We are shaped into the people we are because of what we are taught in school.
Construction of modern stadium begins in Banke
With an investment of more than Rs. 1 billion, the construction of the modern multi-purpose stadium has started in Banke. Narainapur Rural Municipality said it had started the construction of the stadium at its Ward No. 4. Municipality has started the preliminary work of the stadium, which covers an area of 1.254 hectares. Head of the municipality Ishtiaq Ahmed Shah said that levelling the surface and building the wall had been started in the first phase.
Nepal beat Scotland by five wickets
Nepal registered a five-wicket win over Scotland in the trilateral ODI series played under ICC World Cricket League 2 in Glasgow on Wednesday. Nepal bounced back in the series after losing to Namibia by 40 runs in the first match. Nepal achieved the 145-run victory target in 25.1 overs losing five wickets. Nepali batter had the easy target on their sight after bowler dismissed Scotland for a lowly 144 score. Opener Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh gave a decent start with a 47-run first wicket stand. After Bhurtel (28-ball 27) left the pitch, it was Aasif who guided Nepal closer to victory.

A rock memorabilia dealer and two other men were charged Tuesday with scheming to sell allegedly ill-gotten, handwritten lyrics to the classic rock juggernaut “Hotel California” and other hits by the Eagles.

Nepal, World Bank sign accord to improve water supply, sanitation
The government and the World Bank signed an agreement for US$80 million (approximately Rs. 10 billion) concessional loan for a project to improve the delivery of water and sanitation services and promote integrated water resources management. Govt ready to draft policy to govern gold, silver business
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Dilendra Prasad Badu has said that the government is ready to formulate necessary policy for the operation of gold and silver business. During a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association (FENEGOSIDA) at the Ministry Wednesday, Minister Badu said that the government was committed to ensure the rights of the general consumers and businessmen by formulating necessary policies. The delegation led by its president Manik Ratna Shakya met Minister Badu and briefed about the problems of the business.
Embankment being built along Melamchi to protect settlement
Embankment is being constructed along the Melamchi corridor to protect the Melamchi settlement. Work of installing nets for the protection of the human settlements located near the Melamchi River is now moving in full swing. Mayor of Melamchi Municipality Aitman Tamang said that embankments were being constructed to save the roads, markets and school areas that could be eroded by the river. It is being constructed from Helambu to Dolalghat of Kavre, which was damaged by a flood in the Melamchi on July 15 last year.
Reconstruction of broken bridge over Kawa River yet to resume
Eight months ago, the under-construction concrete bridge over the Kawa River connecting Manebhanjyang of Ram Prasad Rai Rural Municipality-5 with Raniban of Hatuwagadhi Rural Municipality-2, both in Bhojpur district, got broken. As per the agreement, the construction of the bridge was to be completed by the end of 2020, but negligence on the part of the contractor as well as other factors extended the completion deadline of the 45-metre long and six-metre wide bridge by one year.
Election for Deputy Speaker scheduled for Friday
Election for Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled for Friday. The process of election has moved forward following a political consensus between the ruling coalition parties. The House is getting the Deputy Speaker just a few months before its term expires. The EC has already proposed the elections of the HoR for November. At the HoR meeting on Wednesday, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota directed the Parliament Secretariat to publish a detailed schedule of the election.
Moving On Right Track
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba-led five-party coalition government has completed one year in office. Formed in a special circumstance, the government has succeeded to safeguard constitution and parliament by upholding the basic values of democracy. It has made important gains on political, social security, health, economic, good governance and foreign policy fronts. First and foremost, it has brought due political process back on track, which was turned upside down by the previous government. Nepal’ new constitution, written by the elected representatives in 2015, has declared Nepal as a federal democratic republic. The adoption of new political and economic system is based on various past democratic movements as well as the people’s aspirations for happy and prosperous life. Instilling the people’s confidence in the federal democratic system and making it functional to address their genuine concerns is the chief objective of the coalition government, and it has succeeded in that mission.
Judicial Credibility At Stake
Judiciary is bleeding white in Nepal. It has been more or less reduced into a constitutional entity shorn of needed legitimacy and trust in it. In the history of the administration of justice, judiciary had not faced the crisis of identity and legitimacy of the scale and proportion that it has confronted during the contemporary times. The incumbent Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana is indicted, and the motion of impeachment has been registered against him at the parliament which has been lying pending for several months now. The parliament's immobilism has deadlocked the impeachment proceeding. The motion has been, in fact, allowed to remain inconclusive without assignment of any reasons.
China's BRI and Nepal
The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which began in 2013, is a modernised version of the 114 BCE Silk Road Initiative and the Maritime Silk Road of the 21st Century, envisioned by Chinese President Xi Jinping. This endeavour aspires to improve China's economic integration and network with Asia, Europe, and Africa. According to The Economist (2017), the BRI will be worth about US $1.3 trillion involving 900 infrastructure projects.
Curio vendors of Basantapur struggle for survival
Binita Tamang, 34, has been selling curio and jewellery at Basantapur for eight years. Nearly 20 others like Tamang have been making their living by holding stalls in the same area. For years, the streets of Kathmandu Durbar Square have been occupied by a plethora of shops, all selling a variety of goods. Basantapur has become a competitive market on which many families survive. But all is not well with the curio sellers for the last couple of years.
Song on Chhaupadi practice released
A Deuda song Lilu based on Chhaupadi has been made public. Puja Devkota, Rekha Joshi, Gauri Bhatt and Rohit Deuba have lent their voice in the song penned by LP Sharma and Gaurav Giri. The music is composed by Rohit Deuba. The video features artistes Roshni Karki, Puja Devkota, Laxmi Prasad Sharma, Bhadra Jung Kuwar, Mukesh Sunar, Ibsu Sanjyal and Pashupati Kuwar. The song narrates the emotions a girl undergoes while staying in a Chhaugoth during her first period. And Lilu is such character whose emotions and physical problems are shown in the song. Lilu said in the song that even though she was given food and cotton, she was not given shelter.
