With only 64 days remaining before the current fiscal year 2021/22 comes to an end, the federal government has been able to utilise only 31 per cent of the capital budget. Of the total capital allocation of Rs. 378 billion, Rs. 117.1 billion is spent till Monday, according to the daily receipts and payments status report of the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO). As per general calculations, the government has to spend about Rs. 4.07 billion a day to mobilise the unspent Rs. 260.9 billion capital budget.
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is arriving in Nepal to mark the Buddha Jayanti in Lumbini on May 16. This will be the first visit of the Indian Prime Minister after his re-election to the top post in 2019. The Indian Prime Minister’s Lumbini visit was confirmed by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba while addressing an election rally in Dadeldhura on Tuesday. Speaking at the election rally organised by Dadeldhura NC, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Deuba said that the construction work of the West Seti Hydropower Project would be handed over to India during the visit.
Deepika Padukone left for Cannes earlier today and is all set to take her place as one of the jury members at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. The actor, who has been a regular attendee of the festival since 2017, was spotted at Mumbai’s airport on Tuesday. Deepika is the only Indian artiste on the panel. The benchmark of capital market index, NEPSE, has been increasing for three consecutive days since Sunday. Nepali currency plunged to a record low against US dollar on Tuesday as Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) fixed the selling exchange rate at Rs. 124.25 per dollar. Earlier on March 8, 2022, the US dollar appreciated at its highest level against the Nepali rupee at Rs. 123.44 per dollar. Then after, with the fluctuation, the exchange rate of a US dollar dropped to Rs. 120.88 on April 6, 2022.
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) is operating shuttle bus service for the tourists on the election day on 13 May, with the help of Tourist Police and Nepal Tourist Vehicle Association (NTVA) and Tourist Bus Association of Nepal (TBAN). Considering the inconvenience of air transport between the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and hotels in Kathmandu on the day of local level election which is going to be held across the country on Friday, the NTB ha arranged a paid shuttle bus service, it said in a statement. Tourists have to pay Rs. 300 to get the service. The facility is available for three routes.

Construction of a meeting hall and meditation centre for 5,000 people has been completed in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha. According to the Lumbini Development Trust, the completed meditation centre will be inaugurated on May 16, on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti. The meeting hall with state-of-the-art facilities has been constructed under the Lumbini Development Master Plan of National Pride. The hall, which was planned to be completed in three years, was delayed by one year due to COVID-19 pandemic.
