Women’s empowerment cannot be achieved by just one intervention. Building of social capital with economic empowerment needs to be fortified by an overall protection component where women and children are ensured safety. The time has come for a paradigm shift where global and national policies need to be scrutinised to ensure the rights of the most vulnerable and marginalised communities.

Hypertension has become a silent epidemic, which is characterized by high blood pressure. It has been found that 4,700,000 people have hypertension problem in Nepal and among them only 400,000 seek medical attention while many of them are unaware that they have the condition. According to Dr. Phanindra Baral, Chief of Non -Communicable Diseases (NCD) and Mental Health at Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), many hypertension patients do no seek treatment.

Popular singer Raju Lama has successfully climbed Sagarmatha (Mount Everest), the highest peak of the world. He reached atop the highest peak at 6:40 am on Monday together with 26 other climbers of his expedition team. According to Imagine Nepal Expedition, singer Lama has conquered the 8848.86-meter high peak.

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has said that suggestions have been collected in an encouraging manner from the toll free number 1138 operated with the objective of assisting in the preparation of the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2022/23. The Ministry said it received encouraging suggestions from most districts across the country.
Damodar Acharya and Prem Kali Budha from Nepali Congress (NC) has been elected chairman and deputy-chairman in Kanakasundari Rural Municipality of Jumla. According to the Election Office, Acharya secured 2,806 votes while Budha secured 2,380 votes. Their closest rivals for the chairmanship Dhana Bahadur Rai and for deputy-chairmanship Rita Khatri from CPN (Maoist Centre) garnered 2,562 votes and 1,945 votes respectively. Likewise, NC won the post of chairman in Kamalbazzar Municipality of Achham. Yagya Prasad Dhakal from NC secured the post of chairman with 4,288 votes while his competitor Katak Bhadur Saud from UML received 4,065 votes.
The birth of Siddhartha Gautam, or the Buddha, as he is known, has changed the world for the better. Like every year since time immemorial, his 2566th birth anniversary was marked across the world on a grand scale on Monday. This begs a question: why is a man born more than 2500 years ago is so revered even today? The answer to this question lies in his teachings. He basically taught the mankind to attain enlightenment – the liberation from the shackles of sufferings created by the human mind. Every human being, whether in rich developed world or in the poor undeveloped world, suffers. Before we start, we need to make a distinction between physical suffering and psychological suffering. Buddha’s teachings are related to the latter. Mankind has made a remarkable progress in alleviating physical suffering to a great degree. But can the same be said about the mental suffering? We don’t think so.

Project delay is the order of the day in Nepal. One of the burning examples is the West Seti Hydroelectric Project. The project site is located in the West Seti river in the Far West of the country. The project covers six districts: Baitadi, Bajhang, Doti, Dadeldhura, Kailali and Kanchanpur. The reservoir site lies in Baitadi and Bajura, whereas the transmission line corridor lies in Doti, Dadeldhura, Kailali and Kanchanpur. All the other sites lie in Doti and Dadeldhura. The elevation of the project site ranges from 550 to 920 metres. The proposed dam lies 82 kilometres upstream of the confluence of the Seti and Karnali rivers.
